Larry Sorenson The AKC September Delegate’s Meeting was very interesting. First I want to tell you all how proud and excited I was to stand up and say, ” I was the Delegate for the Dachshund Club of America.” This was a very heated meeting. The results were not nearly as exciting as the meeting: · Group realignment - This plan was sent back to the AKC Board for more work. It will come back to the Delegate body at the March 2010 meeting. It was not going to pass in my opinion. The aliment of the breeds in the working group was not to the liking of the parent clubs involved. · There was a briefing on the new “Grand Champion” program. The program had a number of changes made to it during this meeting and is going back to the AKC staff for refinements. It is basically 3 majors, 25 points all earned from the specials class. BOV/BOB, BOS, dog select, and bitch select, all 4 would receive points basic on the current point scale. · Endurance Earthdog Title, Earthdog Test committee meeting – This was a very productive meeting. DCA needs to provide their input to AKC. DCA will have a strong influence on the programs development, because as you know Dachshunds are the second highest title earners. The committee voted to move forward on this program. I think we will have something very solid by the end of the year or sooner. · Full Delegates’ Meeting Minutes are available at: http://www.akc.org/pdfs/about/delegates_meeting/sept09.pdf Additional AKC action which may be of interest. · Mixed-breed Dogs - Enroll your mixed-breed dog today for the one-time fee of $35 to receive special AKC benefits (a value of more than $50)! · Lifetime enrollment in AKC CAR Lost & Found Recovery Service · One-year subscription to AKC Family Dog magazine · AKC Canine Partners Certificate of Recognition · AKC Canine Partners Decal · Eligibility to participate in AKC Companion Events o More information is available at: http://www.akc.org/mixedbreeds/listing_benefits.cfm · Info for All Exhibitors in 2010 and Beyond! Please talk to me and DCA Board members about your ideas and wishes. To best represent DCA, we must know what the membership is thinking and the direction we want the sport to go. Respectfully Submitted, Larry Sorenson AKC Delegate for DCA | ||
